What is a real woman?

There has been a lot of talk lately questioning what a ‘real woman’ is. No one can really seem to agree. As there are many different types of women there are as many different definitions of what a ‘real woman’ is. There has been a lot of ‘skinny shaming’ and talk about how a real woman has curves. Perhaps this is in retaliation of ‘fat shaming’ in the recent past? There is been a lot of bashing of models and Victoria’s Secret. While accepting her Trailblazers Award during the 2015 Glamour UK Woman of the Year ceremony in June 2015, Amy Schumer said “I’m probably like 160 pounds right now and I can catch a d— whenever I want.”

I had to look up who Amy Schumer is. It seems she is an American stand-up comedian, writer, producer and actress. Why she won the 2015 Glamour UK Woman of the Year award is beyond me. Seems like that should be held for women from the UK but what do I know? She placed fourth on the fifth season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing and she placed second on Comedy Central’s Reality Bites Back.

Well let me just say this. Of course it is easy for you to catch a d— whenever you want Amy. You have a vagina. That doesn’t mean anything special much less a ‘real woman’. Look I can tell you that all you basically have to do is show up. It doesn’t matter if you are 100 pounds or 160 pounds. It is easy for you. You are a female. There is this stigma in society, well, at least American society, where it is not acceptable for women to be with too many men sexually. It gives them the appearance of being a slut and being a slut lowers your marriage desirability level. Or at least that’s what society would lead us to believe. Personally I do not believe that to be true. I have never cared how many partners my partners have had and I think most men would agree. There are women who will say they have not been with a man for years blah blah blah. That is because of their own standards or morals. Don’t believe me? Come meet me in Las Vegas and I will take you out and get you ladies ‘hooked up’ in five minutes.

There is that old adage that if a man is with a lot of women then he is a stud but if a woman is with a lot of men then she is a slut. But the reality of it is that women enjoy sex as much as man so really what is the point of all of that?

Really what is a real woman after all? Is a real woman one who can tell a few jokes and weighs 160 pounds and has curves like they say in that movie Real Women Have Curves? Or is a real woman a 5 foot 100 pound ‘spinner‘? Is a real woman one who is super fit and athletic? Or is a real woman somewhere in between or somewhere extreme to either end? Who knows really? In fact there was a time in history where the well-to-dos would purposefully be plump to sort of flaunt their wealth. If you had money you could afford to eat more and thus be heavier. Some would say a real woman has large breasts to help feed a baby and broad hips to help with child birth. In fact, that is where the term ‘broad’ comes from.

I have read that Ursula Andress, the actress that played the original Bond Girl in the movie “Dr. No” and another actor were interviewed on the Merv Griffin show. The actor said what a great lady Ursula was because on a mutual friend’s funeral day Ursula was in the window’s kitchen washing dishes. Now that’s a real woman.

So what is a real woman? I can only answer for myself, using my own opinions. Amy Schumer aside, being a real woman has nothing to do with her body. If that were true then no woman who has had a mastectomy could be called a real woman and that is ridiculous. It has nothing to do with her sexual orientation. To me, a real woman meets the challenges of life head-on with dignity, grace and courage. A real woman seeks to understand the many lessons of life and strives to be the very best she can. She loves deeply, laughs often, learns from her mistakes while forgiving others of theirs. She does the best she can with what she has. She is passionate about what she believes in and builds and maintains her world accordingly. She knows who she is. She can take care of herself but lets her man (or partner) treat her like a lady. The friends of a real woman know they can count on her no matter what. Her family is the center of her life. There is a saying, “A real woman never lets her man leave the house hungry or horny.” She understands that she is not perfect. A real woman is caring, gentle and generous. She loves and respects those around her and herself. A real woman knows that it is her responsibility to create the life she desires and to nurture and encourage the ones around her to do the same.

If you have a real woman in your life you are truly blessed. If not, perhaps try this secret.
