Version 2.something

Why Version 2.something? Well… Remember in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when Mike Teevee, played by Paris Themmen, was transported through the air thanks to the miracle of Wonkavision with his body ‘flying over our heads in a million pieces’? Well… That is where Version 1 is. Somewhere out there in the Universe, a bunch of zeros and ones… floating…out there…and not here.

You would think I would have learned. Back in the early nineties when I was playing video games like Leisure Suit Larry the mantra was “Save early, save often and don’t overwrite saves.”

Did I learn? No and thus Version 2.something

Even in one of the most funny movies ever, Burn After Reading, the character played by Brad Pitt says to the character played by John Malkovich, “I thought you might be worried… about the security… of your sh*t.”

Did I secure my sh*t? No. I overwrote it and thus Version 2.something. Yep. Silly me. I was loading up a new website onto my PowWeb account and overwrote all the files for this site. My fantastic tech support specialist, Maria, said they could fix it for fifty bucks and I thought about it for a few seconds and said, “Yeah, forget about it.”

I have the coolest girlfriend in the world ’cause she offered, “Here I will give you the fifty bucks. Just save your website.” The reality of it though is I was not happy with what was there. I had been thinking about it for a couple of weeks actually. I was thinking I had sort of blogged myself into a corner and no one cared, especially me, and I was just gonna stop anyway. This fiasco sort of gave me the push to change everything. Or sure, Brenna is right. (She says she is always right. I believe her.) She says it will take so much time to recreate everything. Thing is, I do not plan to recreate everything, just some things.

Moving on to Version 2.something

So what is the plan? I am going to write about stuff that interests me. Before I tried to keep this site professional and only talk about professional things because “…what if a prospective employer sees this?” I keep thinking about a friend of mine who I suggested, “You should really get your medical marijuana card. It would make it easier and safer.” He said he did not want the government tracking him any more than they already are. “I’ll tell you what buddy, you own several firearms, you have a dog with a license, you have a driver’s license and your multiple cars are registered and you own properties. They are watching you already. There is no hiding.” Substitute ‘gov’ment’ for ‘prospective employer’ and it is all the same. They can find information if they really want to as Edward Snowden has taught us all too well.

So onward and upward like the phoenix bird. I have some websites I am building and I have a novel (or three to write, including a James Bond style) and a whole bunch of other tasty stuff to do. Want to come on the journey with me?

Oh, and do yourself a favor- Save early, save often and secure your sh*t.
